Translation of product literature | from final document to final document |
Cogen's core business is
the translation and multilingual publishing of product literature:
from operating instructions of digital cameras to service manuals
of lawnmower engines or instructions for use of medical devices.
Cogen's customers are manufacturers
of industrial equipment, medical devices and consumer products.
As new markets open up and as regulations
regarding product information (CE-Regulations, Medical Device Directive,
Japanese product liability laws) become more stringent, you are faced
with the challenge to generate more and more product documentation,
in more and more languages.
Simultaneously, product life cycles shorten, as does product cycle
time and the time you have to produce information in all languages.
Time to market has become critical: under no circumstances can a translation
delay a European or Asian product launch.
In addition, tough competition and the global economic environment
have made cost pressure another important component of your company's
marketing environment.
To answer all these challenges, Cogen has developed a
highly efficient and automated workflow.
Cogen's unique automated workflow: |
Your document is formatted in its original language in a dtp
tool such as Interleaf, InDesign, FrameMaker, PageMaker, QuarkXpress,
MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Or, it is an xml file from your content management system, or your authoring tool.

Extraction of the content from the format. This allows re-use of the original
format later on, thus reducing publishing costs, and concentrating on content only.

Elimination
of non-translatables (such as figures and product references)
and of redundancies (such as repetitive section headings). This limits
the translatables to single occurrences of text, and reduces the translation
costs.
Comparison
of your "stripped out" content with your Translation Memory. This allows for content re-use,
which means: cost reduction, enhanced consistency of translations
and reduction of project turnaround time.
Creation
of a new file containing the content segments retrieved from the Translation Memory (full matches), the fuzzy matches and the new content segments in their original version.

Translation
of the new and "fuzzy matching" content by professional translators, native speakers,
and within the context of the translated content from the Translation Memory: this stands for high-quality translations.
Delivery
of an English .pdf file (showing all formatting and illustrations)
and of the translated text file to your reviewers (usually local sales
staff).
| |
Correction
of the translation by your reviewers directly in the translated
text file. This allows for easy, quick and accurate review.

Merge
of the reviewed and approved translated text file into the original
format. If totally automated, this allows for considerable cost and
time reductions by avoiding laborious human intervention in every
language file.
If required, Cogen will make the final adjustments to the layout according
to your specifications.
If your current documents do not allow for total automation of this
merge of content and format, Cogen will propose consultancy services
to allow you to benefit from this cost and time reduction in the future.

Delivery of your final content on the media you request.
Upload database: Final text files are uploaded into the database for future re-use.
